Minions: A Dynamic and Distributed Virtual GPU Cloud Built on Idle Apple Silicon Devices

The increasing demand for GPU-accelerated machine learning inference has exposed limitations in centralized GPU infrastructures, including high cost, limited elasticity, and long wait times under resource constraints. At the same time, modern Apple Silicon–based macOS devices are equipped with powerful GPUs that remain largely idle during normal usage. This paper presents Minions, a dynamic and distributed virtual GPU cloud that aggregates idle Apple Silicon GPUs across macOS devices to execute large-scale machine learning inference workloads.

Learning to Play Like a Pro: Adaptive Motion Planning and Tracking for Humanoid Robots

This White Paper provides roboticists and control engineers with a comprehensive overview of how motion planning and motion tracking can be decoupled to preserve professional athletic style in humanoid robots, and why adaptive, speed-aware control is essential for closing the gap between simulation and real-world deployment. What you will learn about: Why combining a professional athlete's motion style with reliable task performance remains an open challenge in humanoid ball-sports robotics, and how separating a high-level planner from a low-level tracker addresses this trade-off. How motion data extracted from broadcast video and motion-capture recordings can be reconstructed, retargeted, and physically corrected into reference motions a humanoid robot can safely track.

Don't Throw Away Your Old Phone — Build a Robot Instead

Your old phone might not be worth much on the secondhand market, but it could still have a future in robotics. Even aging smartphones pack powerful processors, cameras, motion sensors, and wireless connectivity into a single device. Researchers at UCLA realized that these capabilities could replace much of the expensive electronics normally needed to build a robot.

Kernel prepatch 7.3-rc7

3-rc7 kernel prepatch is out for testing. According to Linus: "As always, I would have preferred to see a smaller rc, but it's not like anything in here looks like a reason to delay the final release. " One notable change that slipped into the mainline this week is the deprecation of the ext4 data=journal mode; it will be removed entirely at the beginning of 2028.
